Philip, thank you for sharing your story. I am an older version of you, but female and a bit older. I am with my third husband. My siblings - all with ADHD - are also on their 3rd or 4th marriages. Those of us who struggle with ADHD know that it is very tough on relationships...especially when it goes undiagnosed. Philip, please consider that you might have auditory processing difficulties...rather than a lack of concern or respect for those talking to you. I've always had trouble tracking on conversations. Finally, I was tested by a psycho-neurologist who discovered the true cause. I was functioning in the 30-percentile, yet my IQ is in the 90-percentile! I'm struggling to finish my last college class to earn a BA degree. The lectures are a nightmare. I've been working at this for over 40 years! Such are the challenges of having ADHD-inattentive dominance. If only your wife could see that your behavior is not willful, but physiological, then maybe you two can avoid becoming another sad statistic. Good luck.
