ADHD and Exercise the Perfect Pair
ADHD and exercise increases the production of chemicals in your brain. Special chemicals called noradrenalin, norepinephrine, serotonin, dopamine and endorphins are all increased by exercise. These chemicals make you happy and more alert. The short list of chemicals are not the story that is important. When you get the juices flowing it mean thousands of things start happening in the brain and all over the body. That is why we say “get the juices flowing”. I would normally look to studies to prove or back up information about how the body works. In the case of exercise I am going to give science a break.
Exercise is Good for You.
We all know the way we feel after we get our heart beating. We feel our blood pumping and our body feels alive. We can think clearer and act faster. I don’t need a doctor in a lab coat to tell me that and neither do you.The feeling lasts long after the workout. For me it feels like I have cleared out all of the junk in my head? Like the rush of the blood everywhere has cleaned up the crud that slows me down and gotten rid of it. When is combine adhd and exercise hours later when I am working at my desk my arms and legs feel looser and more comfortable. My head feels warm and fuzzy inside. There is no urge to fidget and easy distraction. I feel good because I know I did something that will increase my health. My body feels good because it got to burn off excess stuff. Feeling this way allows me to relax and focus. Without pent up energy it is easier to think clearly and get through tasks. With all the junk out of the way I am free to put what I want into focus, not all the inattention, impulses and hyperactivity that I usually deal with. My main treatment. I have used exercise to fight ADHD and it has gotten me through decades of struggle. I combine exercise with a proper ADHD diet. Together they are my main tool to control my ADHD. I know it works. The days I eat badly and don’t exercise I notice difference. It is like a fog enters my brain and a charge is in my muscles. I can’t think straight and I just want to jump up and run around. I struggle with the symptoms of ADHD both physically and mentally. On those days my ADHD feels like a real problem. I just can’t wait to get out there and do something that starts the blood flowing. It is hard to find exercise that is fun and that you want to do.
How to Exercise Without the Pain
We are not all start athletes and we don’t all need gym memberships. We don't all have the time to "workout". How do I keep exercise in my life? It is so hard to start working out and it is not fun.I found a way around this problem. I found a way to keep adhd and exercise in my daily routines. I do things I like that are active. I am a skateboarder, I love riding bicycles, walking in the forest… I need to be active so I find things I like to do. When you enjoy the activity that takes the work out of it. The other secret is that I do things. In stead of driving or taking the elevator I walk and ride my bike when I can. I try to do my day to day routine using the active route. I get off the couch and out of the car seat. You don’t have to do grueling one hour routines everyday to get the benefits in concentration. Do the little things like walking to the store or taking the stairs at work. Bit by bit it adds up to you guessed it. Exercise! Getting the heart beating really gets the benefits going. It starts the body’s chemical factory and then you are in the right zone. The amount of activity needed to start up the juices will be different for everyone. For some of us doing a flight of stairs would be enough. Other may need to run 5 kms. If you feel your heart pounding push a little more and then rest. You be the judge.
The thing about the exercise is that it becomes addictive. Once you start getting the benefits from a workout. You start to crave those benefits more and more. The chemicals your body puts out are sooo addictive. Isn’t addictive bad? >br>Not in this case.
The Big Surprise!
Did you know that most of the drugs and that we take to alter our brains already exist in or body. The active ingredients in the medications for ADHD are already in our brains, that is why the medications work. They either increase the production of these chemicals or up the concentration. You can use adhd and exercise to kick start you internal medications.
Wait! They are already in our brain and we can tap into them whenever we want!
Exercise is the way we get our body to release them naturally.
This is no joke!
Doing some exercise is like popping a pill of a thousand medications except that the only effects are extremely beneficial. Health, better concentration, longer life, feeling happier, lowers stress.
AND!!
Its free.
Save yourself the money and get the heart pumping.
ADHD and Exercise is Too Simple to Pass Up
You don’t need a gym membership or fancy equipment. All you need is the will to get your heart beating. Find the activity hat you like and do it long enough to feel the body turning on. Eat the right foods and get off the couch. If you are trying to treat ADHD and not getting active you are missing out on the best treatment I have found to control my ADHD.
Don’t miss out!
