The ADHD Entrepreneur Is In All Of Us. Don't be an Employee. Be the Boss!
This TED talk by Cameron Herold links the the skills to be an ADHD entrepreneur with the symptoms of ADHD.
The speaker talks a lot like I do. He is clean, clear and slightly out of order in his delivery. His points are fluid and excellent but he tends to jump around just a little. But not to much. The topics meld together well. You can see that he is thinking on his feet and telling the stories as he experienced them. That is the way I speak.
Here are the highlights and time to look out for the best points in the talk:
1:29 He can't focus. Get coached in what children are good at.
2:58 "We teach our kids the things that we shouldn't do." Rather than what they should do.
4:23 Entrepreneur struggled with school, had the symptoms of ADHD.
4:27 18 of the symptoms of ADHD.
4:57 "Giving them ritalin to make them fit. But entrepreneurs aren't students." They are leaders.
13:37 "Allowance breeds kids to expect a paycheck."
16:26 "Don't medicate kids for ADHD unless it is really really freaken bad!"
16:46 "The inventors of Netscape had ADHD." They invented the first internet browser. "Imagine the loss to us if they were put on Ritalin."
I Get Excited to Hear this Kind of Talk!
It is true That successful people and famous people have problems with ADHD. The best of us have turned their ADHD problems into wild successes. I struggle with structure and doing things other peoples way. I find better ways to do things and I go for it. Being an entrepreneur is the natural way to go for me.
Let all of us embrace these gifts of ADHD and make our lives better in the process.
