ADHD Related Disorders

There are many ADHD related disorders that people face these days. To an untrained eye it would be difficult tell the difference between them. Heck we even need to define the difference between ADD vs ADHD.

A proper description of ADHD related disorders will help us to see the symptoms of ADHD more clearly and avoid an ADHD misdiagnosis. These are many of the closest and similar conditions to ADHD:

Many of these conditions are present with ADHD. that brings me to the next topic.

Comorbidity

Comorbidity is when two or more are disorders exist in an individual at the same time. That means that in addition to having the symptoms of ADHD other ADHD related disorders are also present. As if it wasn't difficult enough to just have ADHD symptoms!

With multiple different conditions and disorders it is impossible to find a label for every single person. It may appear that this is what doctors try to do. People are more complicated than just one label. Each symptoms is rated on a spectrum of nominal to severe.

Those with symptoms that are severe enough to cause problems in their life are given diagnoses. So they can get help with their disorders. I will take the time to describe them, how they relate with ADHD related disorders. Then let you decide what to do, with the help of your doctor of course.

Be in the Know

Knowing all of the similar characteristics of these disorders and being able to discuss them with a little bit of knowledge is a great thing.

This will never replace the opinion of a doctor or specialist. But it will allow you to understand better many of the things they talk about. It will also give you the ability to notice problems or incorrect assumptions in an ADHD diagnosis.

Being more educated may bother the doctors a little bit because of all the extra opinion. Some people call this cyberchondria, the behavior of people who use the Internet to gather information on health or healthcare.
They then often think that they know more than the doctors because they read wikipedia.

I would not go as far as thinking that we know better than doctors. However I think a strong debate over such huge decisions such as what to diagnose and how to treat ADHD should be accompanied by a well-informed discussion.

We rely heavily on the doctor’s opinions and prescriptions. In all situations, are own opinion strikes the most valid course of action. A doctor may give a diagnosis for one condition or the other.

In the end it is our opinion based on all the knowledge we have that will influence how we move forward with treatment.

Knowledge is Power!

Let's be knowledgeable about ADHD and related disorders and all things ADHD. That is what I am created ADHDaction.com. So we all can make the most informed and conscious decisions possible.
