Methylphenidate is the generic term for Ritalin

Methylphenidate is brand name for the ADHD medication Ritalin. It is the generic name for the actual chemical in the ADHD medication.

Most often a drug will be given a brand name by the company who makes it. This is the same as a car company. Many car companies will produce SUV's and Pickup Trucks. Each of these companies will give a name to their version of the product.

Dodge has the Jeep SUV and Ram truck. Ritalin is to Methylphenidate like Dodge Ram is to truck.

The generic name doesn't change much hats because the active chemicals don't change. The Brand name can change a lot depending on you makes the drug and what you buy it.

For more information on these ADHD medications go to the Ritalin information page.
